Clear Channel Outdoor - brief history

Clear Channel Outdoor began business in the United States in 1901 as Foster & Kleiser. Throughout a variety of partnerships and acquisitions, Foster & Kleiser operated under their namesake until being sold to Patrick Media Group in 1986. In 1995, Karl Eller and Partners acquired all assets of the then 94 year old Foster & Kleiser Company.

In 1997, Eller Media Company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications. By combining assets with Universal Outdoor (also acquired in 1997), it gave Clear Channel Communications 88,000 displays in 33 major U.S. markets.

In 1999, Clear Channel Communications acquired More Group PLC, a British based outdoor advertising company with operations in over 30 countries.

In 2001, Eller Media Company officially changed its name to Clear Channel Outdoor. Since being owned by Clear Channel the outdoor division has added Spectacolor in Times Square, Donrey Outdoor and continues to expand its international presence.

In 2005, a Initial Public Offering was issued for Clear Channel Outdoor. The stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol CCO.

Clear Channel is committed to leadership and industry dominance in all media segments where the company participates. Clear Channel’s strength as a media company and its success as a publicly traded stock translates into solid benefits for Clear Channel Outdoor. The future financial stability of Clear Channel is evident from its longevity and strategic acquisitions. Clear Channel is now the world’s largest outdoor advertiser with over 800,000 out-of-home displays. Clear Channel is also a world leader with 1,225 radio stations in the U.S. and 240 radio stations international (1,465 radio stations) in 300 markets, 37 television stations, and over 90 international websites.

Clear Channel Outdoor has roots in the principals of Foster & Kleiser, guided by the spirit of Karl Eller and looks forward to its bright future as the world leader in outdoor advertising.
